Wee bit o’ love

I may have mentioned this before…I don’t believe in Valentine’s Day.  My husband is supportive of my non-belief.  Here’s why….I think it’s a “Hallmark holiday” – an over-priced and unconvincing non-holiday that corporations dreamed up to increase sales when the masses are receiving their Christmas bills and are coming off of their New Years Resolutions of eating healthy, exercising more,  and saving money.  Plus I don’t need a day on a calendar to remind me to show my love to important people in my life. OK…rant over 🙂

You may be relieved to know that I do not insist that everyone around me adhere rigidly to my belief. Of course the boys take Valentines to school and all that. I even try to make a Valentine card for my boys in order to “participate as a normal member of society.” But I don’t go out or make a big expensive fuss.

For Liam, who has an email address I think I will email him his Valentine this year.  That will be a new one.

I started with the As You See It Assortment Challenge to create my digital Valentine.

then I threw in a dash of the Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch #78

And here is how it turned out:

Aysi22-001

I liked it fairly simple. I added lots of things and ended up taking them all back off – working digitally is cool like that…no glue!  Even with the hearts and the purple I don’t think it is too girly or frilly to send to my pre-teen boy.  We’ll see how this goes down 😉
Do you exchange Valentine’s with anyone?  Have you ever send an e-Valentine? Would you?

Not just football season…also Baby season

Several friends pushing babies into this world lately, so I thought I would wrap up the AYSI challenge with accomplishing the personal task of having baby cards to send also. Multi-tasking is part of my soul…what can I say.

Here is what the AYSI sketch challenge looked like this week:

AYSIChallenge021

I think some of the girls (designers were grumbling about this one because they were having trouble with it.
I can’t say that it came together quickly and I think that is due to some of my “detour” during my creative process.
I did have it narrowed down to “baby” and I also went looking for a good color challenge and came across the Friday Mashup which was Crumb Cake, Coastal Cabana, and Real Red – perfect for my boy card, so just had to alter slightly for a girl card – I can do that.

Here is how it all came together for the boy card:

And the girl card just swapped out the blue for a pink:

I didn’t think January was a typical baby pushing month…if it’s cold where you are it may be a good baby making month… I can see that.
Have you noticed more babies being born? Or is it just me?

Creativity and the plague…

image

I’ve been doing some heavy duty mulling lately…it may have tipped into ruminating actually…about my crafting (or lack thereof). So far this year my crafting has been defined by the phrase “avoiding it like the plague.” But that does not mean that I’m not being creative. No siree. In fact, I have realized (after my mulling) that I have been working on Me…and My Life.  2014 started out with the realization that I had kind of burned myself out by the end of 2013 and some recuperation had been highly necessary.  Currently, I am focused on getting some processes in place to feel less overwhelmed and more clear about everyday things…I’ve got things to share with you – yes I do – give me a bit more time.  I’m also re-building trust with me…I’ve had a tendency to come up with ideas and make plans (with myself) that I don’t keep – that is getting to be damaging and it is going to have to change ASAP.

Here are 5 things that will support me in ridding myself of the plague:

1. Focus on Progress not Perfection. This is a tough one for me…it’s about baby steps and I’ve always been more about giant leaps.

2. Stop Using the Word “But”. The word negates everything that came before it so why bother saying it at all? And when I use this in talking to myself it can be sabotaging

3. Stop Using the Word “Busy”. I fully adopted the perspective shared in this article about how being busy isn’t respectable anymore – www.tylerwardis.com/busy-isnt-respectable-anymore/

4. Follow Through with You. If I (really) intend to do something I will add it to my task list and set a date for it to be complete + I will outline the small steps to make it accomplishable (see #3).

5. Be a Morning Person. By FAR the HARDEST one that I will try to accomplish.

Have you been working on you?  What’s going well? What is super hard?

AYSI #20!

Wow – 20 weeks of  As You See It brings with it time to do a bit of re-evaluation. The design team and I had to get honest about how this is going and whether we want to continue. The great news (I think) is that everyone is really keen to continue designing for the challenge.  I am going to make a commitment to myself to do more of my designing sans last minute.  Before I forget let me mention that the timeline for linking to your projects is changing just slightly – Challenges will still be going up on Friday morning, but you will need to get your project done and linked by Wednesday evening.  If you’ve been coming in just under the wire, I’m sorry to say that you’re wire just moved :S I hope you will be able to adjust and continue to play along with us.

On to the challenge…

Yep, it’s a sketch challenge. With a few great elements for layering. Here is what I came up with:

It seems that I must be sending out and using up birthday cards, ’cause all of a sudden I’m in need of some birthday cards.  I knew I wanted to showcase a couple of Sale-a-bration products for the sweet banner…and the Birthday Basics DSP went along to make a super fun and simple card.  I wonder….if I need birthday cards, maybe you do too?  I’ll be putting together a class in the next month to get you a stash of birthday cards too 🙂

Happy New Year

Did you have a great holiday and new year?  We certainly have! This is the first time (in we can’t remember how long) that we have not had a schedule or places to go or people to see or anything at all to do. This has been a real staycation for us – thank goodness, ’cause we’ve needed it.

The first of the year marks the end of my December daily…to see all that we have been up to and to see my photos you can check out www.justforme365.wordpress.com that is where I keep my photos. I have been printing out many of the photos throughout the month and have been adding them to my Stampin’ Up pocket pages (so easy!) Just need to print off my last batch and then I’ll share the whole book (watch for that soon).

Our family always does a family photo on the first of the year, so I thought that would be the last page in my book.
For my page I used both the As You See It theme challenge this week and the sketch from the Paper Craft Crew Challenge.

I  will need to go “back in time” a smidgen and wish everyone happy holidays when I have a few more minutes.  Today I just wanted to quickly share my (late) project for he AYSI challenge.  Next year we will have the timing a bit better figured out. This year we have a sketch challenge for you to enjoy… if you are tired of Christmas cards it’s time to pull out something new and bright!

Here is my take:

I used my new “sneak peak” Sale-a-bration paper! Whoot!! That’s right Sale-a-bration is coming 🙂

Santa Puzzle

I had every intention of creating a digital page out of the sketch for the As You See It Challenge this week, but my cardstock was calling my name.

AYSIChallenge015

All those boxes are just dying to be filled with photos and journalling…will have to do that later this week me thinks.  But, for now I have made a super cute Santa Puzzle card.

015Amanda

My son Liam saw it when it was almost done and he said it was like a puzzle. I agreed…a Santa puzzle.
